'Our plan is to end it at 10': Modern Family creators claim series will likely end after next season... while the cast and crew celebrate 200th episode
It's been one of the most popular comedies on television for years.
But it seems Modern Family's run is almost complete, if creators Steve Levitan and Christopher Lloyd get their way.
The show, which first debuted on ABC back in 2009, will apparently be ending with season 10.
All done? It seems Modern Family's run is almost complete, if creators Steve Levitan and Christopher Lloyd get their way
Steven and Christopher told The Hollywood Reporter that ending the show is the right thing for the show and the audience.
'Our plan is to end it at 10,' stated Levitan 'If we can leave with most of our audience wanting more, I think that's the right way to do it. Never say never, but I just can't imagine that we'd go past that.'
Of course there are also practical concerns to consider, such as ensuring the cast would stay if the network did opt for the an 11th season.
ABC and producer 20th Century Fox would have to pony up major money to ensure the ensemble cast are on board for a continuation.
Tough decision: Steven Levitan (right) and Christopher Lloyd have said that ending the show is the right thing for the show and the audience
While the show's demise could be sad for fans, there have been rumblings of a spinoff for one or more of the show's beloved characters.
But Levitan seemed to put the kibosh on the idea, telling THR they have not had 'substantive conversations about [it].'
Co-creator lloyd was apparently a bit more open minded, and told the publication that it may be revisited toward the end of the series.

Finally, the duo discussed how they're not sure how the show will wrap up.
'We haven't figured out the episode we're doing three weeks from now. It's just a little over a year and a half from now. We've got time to think about that,' they said.
Meanwhile the whole ensemble cast took a moment earlier in the week to acknowledge the 200th episode milestone.

The group posed around a 200th episode shrine, with everyone apparently over the moon about the accomplishment.
Sarah Hyland, 27, who plays Haley Dunphy, even commemorated the event on her Instagram with several snaps from the celebration and a gushing caption.
'To say that I can’t believe that the 200th episode of Modern Family is airing tonight would be an understatement. I’m the luckiest person on the planet to be able to be a part of such a progressive show that not only has the greatest castmates ever but the greatest crew, the greatest writers, the greatest FANS! Thank you all for following us on this modern journey we call family,' she said, before adding a heart emoji as well.
